Police Officer
Qualifications
Applicants must
meet all employment qualifications prior to
completing an application. All applicants
must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- 21 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
equivalent
- Have completed 2 years satisfactory
experience as a certified sworn law
enforcement officer in the state of Illinois
or
- Possess an Associates Degree with at
least a C average (or its equivalent) with
an emphasis in criminal justice, or
- Possess 60 college credit hours with at
least a C average (or its equivalent) with
an emphasis in criminal justice, or
- Possess Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of
Science degree from a four year college or
university.
- Possess a valid driver's license which
must be shown as identification during all
phases of testing.
Testing itinerary All applicants must:
- Attend an orientation session
- Pass a physical fitness test
- Pass a written exam
- Pass a thorough background investigation
- Pass a polygraph test
- Pass an in-depth psychological and
comprehensive medical exam
- Must have vision correctable to 20/20
- Complete the 16 week Police training
academy
- Complete and pass the 17 week

Residency Requirements Certified
patrol officers must reside in the Village of
Tinley Park within 1 year after date of
employment.
